PIP'S PAGE Spring 2011

Dear boys and girls,
In the spring Farmer Joy bought some fantastic new uniforms for all the helpers at the farm. Everybody looks very smart!

We were pleased to have lovely weather during April for lambing, as our sheep have their lambs outside in the field.
Our tame ewe Snowflake 2 had her first lamb this year and she is a great mum!
One ewe had such a huge lamb that Farmer Joy weighed it to find out how big it was. It weighed 10kg, which is 22lb!
Children visiting the farm were a brilliant help feeding the three lambs that needed to be bottle fed. It's a big job to hand rear a lamb so we were glad of lots of willing volunteers! Two of these lambs came to us from another farm, they are Texel x and it will be very interesting to compare them to our North Country Cheviots as they grow.

Spring also saw the arrival of some new hens. They must have been very happy in their new home in the Early Years Area, as they laid plenty of tasty eggs and we had lots of double yolkers! Cia used some of them to make scrambled eggs, can you believe that all these yolks came from just six eggs!!!

At the beginning of May two lovely Pygmy Goats, Alice and Mary came to live at the farm. They were very shy at first, but now they love having lots of visitors. Alice is really naughty, shen keeps on getting her head stuck in the fence, when she is trying to reach to eat the hedge.

Finally we were all very excited when Emma & Steven chose Cronkshaw Fold Farm as the venue for their eco-friendly wedding reception. It was a wonderful celebration and we wish them every happiness together!
